O.K. I have this right? You are going to the doctor you just need to get through till then? Exercise will give you endorphins that are feel good chemicals. Also if exercise isn't your thing, try treating your self as if you have a physical sickness, get a bath put your most favorite jammies on find comedy on the t.v. and eat comfort food, do all of this with no guilt, make yourself the most comfortable you can. Distract yourself, books, reading music, tv. Anything to keep your mind from ruminating. Say I am on vacation until I can get to the doctor. Take a drive with the windows down, just go looking at things. I hope this helps. |

Phone the Samaritans. You don't need to be suicidal to do that. They'll let you get everything off your chest without giving any opinion about anything you say. They might try to persuade you to see your doctor soon, and that would be best as other people will need their services more urgently, but as a quick bit of help it's worth a try. Good luck |

Get out!! Get out of the house!! Get into the sun shine! Sunshine is a great source of vitamin C and a great anti depressant. Even if there's no sunshine being out side is a booster. If at all possible, get out of, or away from, the situation that's bringing you down! Keep yourself busy and not idle so you don't have time to think about what's bringing you down. |

For depression it is better to receive cognitive therapy from a trained therapist. You can also try Samaritans If you are looking for a way to beat it on your own it is better to try ‘mindfulness’. It is considered as a viable alternative to prescription drugs. Therapists use Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy ( MBCT) to prevent relapse and recurrence of depression in those who are in recovery. MBCT includes simple breathing meditations and yoga stretches to help participants become more aware of the present moment, including getting in touch with moment-to-moment changes in the mind and the body. If you want to develop mindfulness on your own you can try oprah.com/ search.jsp?query= jon+ kabat-zinn &resultsPerPage= 20 &sortBy= Relevancy &filterType= &filterBy= &page= 1 &x= 17 &y= 9 Or bswa.org/ search.php?query= mindfulness &mid= 6 &action= showall &andor= AND Keep the following in your mind, Anchor your attention to what's happening in the present moment, you must actively engage your mind's natural tendency to fly all over the place without having to ruminate about the past, or worry about the future. Do not suppress inner restlessness, emotional states and hidden thoughts but develop a willingness to observe it as it happens without reacting. Allow distressing moods, thoughts and sensations to come and go, without having to battle with them. Bring the same type of gentle awareness to self-denigrating thoughts and feelings in your everyday lives when you're berating yourself for falling short of your own expectations Try to notice small beauties and pleasures in the world around you instead of living in your head. Accept yourself as you are, rather than judging yourself all the time and you don't have to battle with yourself all the time. Be kind to yourself instead of wishing things were different all the time, or driving yourself to meet impossible goals. To get outside to develop mindfulness try, mbct.com/ Classes_sub02.htm ajahnchah.org/ branch-monastery-ajahn-chah.php dhamma.org/ en/ wclist/ (This is an advanced method to develop mindfulness. You can find a case study for depression here, vridhamma.org/ Mental-Health-94.aspx ) |
