Depression | Depression Information

Question: Went to gp for depression and am on a waiting list for cognitive therapy, what does it mean & how severe is it?

I scored an 8 on their tick box test and am now on a loong waiting list to see someone regarding cognitive therapy, what should I expect from this? I wasn't given anti- depressants.

I am not sure what test you were given so it is impossible to know how severe or mild your depression is. It is a good sign that you were not prescribed drugs as this means that most likely the depression is mild. Cognitive therapy is aimed at examining the beliefs that you hold that are causing you to feel depressed with a goal of debating and changing these beliefs. From what I have experienced depression is caused by a person giving up on their goals in life due to some obstacles they have encountered. Depression is cured by realizing that the obstacles in life occur to grow you as a person rather than to stop you enjoying life.
